2016 ICFF features trending furniture and interior design trends
NEW YORK - The fast-growing ICFF design show, featuring the latest in cabinet, furniture and interior design trends, is now in its 28th year and is set to take place May 14-17 in New York City at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.
A host of designers, craftsmen and manufacturers each year head to this event, described as "the premier North American global Design showcase" for interior furniture, seating, carpet and flooring, lighting, outdoor furniture, materials, wall coverings, accessories, textiles, kitchen and bath and fabricators. The 2015 show saw an increase in floor space, attendees and exhibitors.
Typifying ICFF are Jennifer Farmer and Daniel Knowles, who will debut two distinct modern updates of the classic mid century record console along with companion pieces from their furniture and audio lifestyle brand, Luno.
Farmer operates a successful custom furniture design business and Knowles is a sound engineer with two decades of experience in audio. They were looking for a centerpiece for their home, a record console that would sound as good as it looks. Finding nothing they decided to design one themselves and so Luno was born, a range of luxury items that are as easy on the ears as they are on the eyes.
Luno’s EGB2 and J2B2 are timely updates of the classic record consoles of the 50’s and 60’s. The beautiful Mid Century inspired design, boutique minimalist turntable, pull out Minibar and custom gold-rimmed whiskey glasses effectively evoke the luxurious style and modernist design of the “Mad Men” era. Each console is crafted by finely skilled artisans in the USA using American Walnut and would undoubtedly be a conversation piece based on its stylish design alone.
Under the hood and you’ll find all the trappings of a great sounding modern music system with turntable and custom designed two-way speaker system.
Built in to the consoles is a separate 100w enclosed subwoofer and three band tone control. Toggle the selector switch and they can now be controlled from any Apple or Airplay compatible device (iPhone, iPad, Mac etc.) The EGB2 and J2B2 both come with storage space for around 150 records already built in. The EGB2 features a pull out minibar complete with gold-rimmed whiskey glasses and storage space for four average size liquor or wine bottles.
More ICFF highlights
ICFF 2016 will have expanded exhibition space, more on-the-floor programs, education by ASID, and a new Emerging Designer pavilion. The new programs will fill an additional 30,000 net square feet – covering more than half of the third level of the Javits Center.
Last year ICFF introduced an expanded exhibition space to feature new categories and design offerings with the introduction of the Luxe Interiors + Design pavilion. That pavilion returns this year and is nearly doubled in size.
“The success of the introduction of the Luxe Interiors + Design pavilion prompted us to not only continue the feature, but double it for 2016,” said Kevin O’Keefe, ICFF Event Director. “By increasing the square footage, we are bringing in more than 100 exhibitors showcasing a mix of transitional and classic contemporary design brands.”
“The ICFF exhibition floor has grown by 30 percent over 2015, as the Fair welcomes some 150 new brands on two floors at the Javits Center in May,” O’Keefe says. “Expect to discover what’s outstanding and what’s next in furniture, lighting, wall coverings, surfaces, kitchen and bath. Be introduced to emerging designers from around the world.”
