US: Strong increase in wooden furniture imports from Malaysia and Vietnam
Malaysia and Vietnam were the largest suppliers of wooden furniture to the U.S., with export value rising approximately 20% to reach US$673.3 million and US$3 billion respectively in 2015, according to statistics from the ITTO.
Malaysia’s share in total imports increased from 3.8% in 2014 to 4.1% in 2015 while Vietnam’s share grew to 18.5%.
Imports from China also saw strong growth, increasing 10% to US$7.67 billion but total market share shrunk slightly to 47.3%. Imports from Indonesia were also up 5% to US$587.6 million from 2014.
In total, the U.S. imported US$16.23 billion worth of wooden furniture in 2015. Wooden furniture imports from Europe did not grow as strongly in 2015 as imports from Asia, Canada and Mexico.
