PORANI Won The Best Product Design 2016
The Porani's dining set that makes up of minimalism elements and contemporary styles has won the Best Product Design Award for Dining Furniture category in EFE international trade show 2016. The decision maker is lead by the three industry professionals which make up the impressive judging panel. The chief judge, Mr Franz Rivoira from FederMobili, Italy leads two of the nation's leading authorities, Dr Jegatheswaran Ratnasingam from UPM and Ms Chua Huwi Huwi from FCUC Malaysia.
During the EFE 2016, Porani has received a huge interest in the products which drew the attention of the buyer from all over the world. With the contemporary design with a sprinkle of nordic elements in the outlook, an eye catching products with the sophistication of excellency drives the vast enquiries from the attendants. A big move from Penang manufacturer, Yoma Furniture Trading to create a new product line in the name of Porani, which the products break the perception of foreign buyer towards Malaysia furniture makers. Besides than common material found in Malaysia furniture rubber wood, Porani also uses imported wood and local special species which are uncommon doing with the traditional local furniture maker.
Mr Franz Rivoira is a professional journalist and designer operating since 1988 in strategic communication and marketing services for high-end and luxury products specialising in furniture and furnishings. Since 2002, he has served as Art Director for FederMobili - the Italian B2B magazine dedicated to the professionals furniture world. Mr Franz Rivoira has provided his extensive experience and rich insights business, especially towards OBM and ODM-driven market, to the most prestigious private and institutional clients, between which several government agencies, as well as in public seminars and speeches.
Dr Jegatheswaran Ratnasingam is the professor of Furniture Technology, Faculty of Forestry at UPM. He has over 15 years of industrial experience in the furniture sector and through his vast experience in furniture it has enabled him to identify value-addition trends within the regional furniture industries. He is regarded as one of the leading authorities on the Asian furniture industry with strong advocate of efficient use of raw materials and pays strong attention to "furniture as fashion". With more than 500 publications to his credit, he is recognised as the most prominent furniture researcher in the country.
Ms Chua Huwi Huwi is the current Deputy Head and Coordinator for Interior Architecture and Design programmes for FCUC. Chua has won several awards which include the National Outstanding Educator Award 2015, Design Category from Private Education Cooperative of Malaysia; Gold Best Lecturer, Nippon Paint Young Designer Award 2014 and 2012. She was also one of the judges for the 8th International InteriCAD Interior Design Award 2012. She has vast experience as judge for several design competitions during exhibitions.
